Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera was created by the Tabung Angkatan Tentera Act 1973 to administer pension contributions from Malaysian Armed Forces members and volunteer forces. The statutory body reports to the Ministry of Defence and channels benefits through the Perwira Fund unit trust scheme. The fund allocates across public equities, private holdings and real estate. Confirmed positions include a 54.9 percent stake in Pharmaniaga Berhad, a 65 percent interest in Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation Berhad, and full ownership of Boustead Plantations Berhad. Geographic exposure remains concentrated in Malaysia with additional palm oil interests spanning Indonesia. LTAT also controls Royale Chulan Hotels & Resorts and The Curve shopping mall through Boustead Properties Berhad. The organization employs 350 staff at its Kuala Lumpur headquarters. It maintains the philanthropic vehicle Yayasan LTAT, which has provided endowments for education programs serving armed forces families. In March 2025 LTAT held its annual dividend announcement ceremony in Kuala Lumpur. LTAT operates as a statutory pension body rather than a conventional asset manager. Its governance ties directly to the Ministry of Defence and requires alignment of investment decisions with contributor welfare mandates.
