nChroma Bio

nChroma Bio operates as an operating company, not a fund, so capital allocation and pipeline decisions are made by CEO Jeffrey Walsh and the executive team under board oversight. The board includes representatives from Atlas Venture, F-Prime Capital, Newpath Partners, Cormorant Asset Management, and independent directors including Spark Therapeutics co-founder Jeff Marrazzo (Chair). The firm has not disclosed a separate investment committee structure.

nChroma Bio was formed by merging the two companies in December 2024. Chroma Medicine contributed the epigenetic editing platform and intellectual property co-invented by Angelo Lombardo and Luigi Naldini. Nvelop Therapeutics contributed in vivo delivery technologies and the executive leadership team, including CEO Jeffrey Walsh and CSO Melissa Bonner. The combined entity operates from a single site in Boston.

The scientific founders' published work spans CRISPR base editing (David Liu), epigenetic silencing (Angelo Lombardo, Luigi Naldini), zinc-finger nucleases and CRISPR off-target analysis (Keith Joung), and AAV capsid engineering (Aravind Asokan, chair of the scientific advisory board). nChroma states it is targeting in vivo delivery of 'genetic cargoes' — a term broad enough to include editors, suppressors, and writers — but has not publicly specified which modalities are in active development.

The founding syndicate includes Atlas Venture, F-Prime Capital, and Newpath Partners, all of which have board seats, alongside Cormorant Asset Management, whose founder Bihua Chen also sits on the board. nChroma has not disclosed total capital raised or specific deal terms for the merger.

There is no corporate relationship. Chairman Jeff Marrazzo co-founded Spark Therapeutics in 2013, led it as CEO until its 2019 sale to Roche for $4.8 billion, and oversaw the first FDA approval of a gene therapy for a genetic disease (LUXTURNA). His board presence gives nChroma access to rare operational experience in gene-therapy commercialization, but the two companies are independent.

As of mid-2026, nChroma Bio has not publicly named a lead clinical candidate or disclosed IND filings. The firm's public-facing materials describe a platform-stage company that is engineering genetic cargoes and delivery vehicles, suggesting preclinical work is the current focus.
