Norrlandsfonden

Norrlandsfonden provides subordinated top-up loans, guarantees and sureties that complement senior bank financing and owner equity. It does not make equity investments directly; its credit is structured to fill the gap between what a company can raise from banks and the total funding needed for expansion, new technology rollouts or business area diversification.

It is a foundation, not a fund. It does not take equity stakes or board seats. Instead it extends credit on flexible terms, earning interest and fees while preserving company ownership for entrepreneurs and early investors. Its impact is measured in regional investment volume rather than carried interest.

Norrlandsfonden Invest AB is a wholly owned subsidiary that operates as a minority equity investor in small and medium-sized enterprises in Norrbotten and Västerbotten. It invests alongside private investors with a total capital base of SEK 200M — enabling Norrlandsfonden to support companies through a separate risk capital vehicle without diluting the foundation's credit-first mandate.

Portfolio exposure spans manufacturing, hospitality, IT, biotechnology, mining services, logistics and renewable energy. Recent lending has supported mining contractors, edtech platforms, railway operators and tourism infrastructure. The foundation states a particular interest in companies deploying new technologies or entering new business areas.

Yes. Its mandate is strictly geographic — the five counties of Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Västernorrland, Jämtland and Gävleborg. While it cooperates with banks, auditors and regional agencies nationwide, its lending and equity activities are confined to this territory.
