Partners Private Equity Management launched in 2001 when Paul J. Isaac, previously head of New York-based fund of funds Cadogan Management, created a vehicle to hold private companies outside the constraints of traditional drawdown structures. The firm operates from Boston with a permanent-capital approach that distinguishes it from most private equity managers of its era. PPEM targets majority and significant minority stakes in profitable, mid-market enterprise software, financial technology, and business services companies, typically generating $5 million to $30 million in EBITDA. Rather than running sequential blind-pool funds, the firm deploys through its balance-sheet co-investment model, partnering selectively with family offices and high-net-worth individuals on each transaction. Known portfolio company exposures include Open Solutions, a core banking platform provider taken private with co-investors in 2002 and held for several years, and Metavante Technologies, the financial technology firm spun from Marshall & Ilsley.
