Adam Hunter launched Phlo Technologies in Glasgow in 2019, designing a vertically integrated digital pharmacy from the ground up. The firm holds General Pharmaceutical Council registration and operates its own dispensing facilities, bypassing legacy wholesaler networks. At launch, Hunter described the mission as building a patient-centric alternative to high-street chemists, with an initial service area covering Greater Glasgow before expanding across the UK. Phlo's strategy combines B2C pharmacy services with B2B infrastructure plays. The consumer-facing digital pharmacy offers same-day medication delivery, real-time prescription tracking, and clinician messaging. On the B2B side, the firm partners with NHS trusts and private providers through Phlo Connect — an API-first pharmacy infrastructure layer that embeds Phlo's dispensing and logistics into third-party digital health platforms. Confirmed partners include Babylon Health, the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board, and online dermatology clinic GetHarley. The firm has raised venture funding to scale its operations. Phlo closed a £2 million seed round in 2020 led by Scottish angel syndicates, and secured a £10 million Series A in 2023 from Par Equity alongside other backers including Thairm Bio and Scottish Enterprise. The funds have supported geographic expansion into Birmingham and London, the build-out of automation at its central Glasgow dispensing hub, and the development of the Phlo Connect API product. Phlo's structural distinction lies in its dual revenue model — it functions simultaneously as a regulated pharmacy dispensing to patients and as a white-label infrastructure provider to other digital health companies. This means competitors in the digital clinic space can also become Phlo Connect customers, giving the firm exposure to multiple growth vectors within the UK's £12 billion community pharmacy market without relying solely on direct-to-consumer acquisition.
