Qatar Foundation Endowment was established in 1995 by Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. It functions as the commercial investment arm of the larger Qatar Foundation non-profit. The endowment channels returns into education, science, and community programs run by the parent entity. The endowment deploys across real estate, infrastructure, and operating businesses. Confirmed holdings include full ownership of Msheireb Properties, Qatar Science & Technology Park, and a 50 percent stake in Vodafone Qatar acquired in 2018. It previously held a 5 percent position in Bharti Airtel that was exited in 2017. Geographic exposure centers on Qatar with additional assets in Italy through Mater Olbia Hospital and France through consumer-goods holdings. Structures include direct ownership, joint ventures, and limited-partner commitments such as 3i Eurofund V. The parent organization reports 5,773 employees. Additional vehicles include Education Above All, founded in 2012, and Qatar National Research Fund, established in 2006. November 2024: Sponsored the World Innovation Summit for Health in Doha. The endowment maintains service relationships with Goldman Sachs as investment advisor since 2013 and multiple local legal counsel. The endowment operates as a captive vehicle whose mandate requires reinvestment into Qatar Foundation's campus and research institutions rather than external limited-partner distributions. This creates a closed-loop structure where investment decisions align directly with the foundation's physical and programmatic expansion in Education City.
