Coran Capshaw founded the firm in 1991 and remains its strategic anchor. The firm operates as a collective of manager-led verticals; individual artist managers run day-to-day career decisions, but larger strategic moves — such as launching adjacent businesses like ATO Records or Starr Hill Presents — have historically been driven by Capshaw.

Red Light is an artist management company, not a family office or venture fund. Its economic model relies on commission-based management fees and revenue participation, not deployed capital. However, Capshaw's parallel ventures in brewing, record labels, and live-event production create an ecosystem that functions similarly to an operating-company portfolio.

The firm states publicly that it does not accept unsolicited recordings or material. New artist relationships typically originate through manager networks, touring connections, and existing artist referrals. Once inside the Red Light ecosystem, acts often gain access to ATO Records releases and Starr Hill Presents festival slots.

Red Light maintains eight offices: Charlottesville, New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Nashville, Seattle, London, and Bristol. Its artist roster tours globally, with European operations anchored by the London and Bristol offices.

The firm functions as a collective of autonomous manager groups rather than a centralized partnership. Each group operates as an entrepreneurial vertical, which allows legacy acts and emerging artists to receive specialized attention while sharing back-office and touring infrastructure.
