Retale

Retale was the North American subsidiary of Bonial International Group, a German digital media company that operates retail marketing platforms across Europe. Bonial, which is partially owned by Axel Springer, provided the initial funding and maintained a controlling interest in Retale throughout its active period. The Chicago office served as the US headquarters, while engineering and corporate functions were split with the Berlin office.

Retale generated revenue through performance marketing and advertising agreements with national retailers. Brands paid to feature their promotions and product listings within the Retale app and web platform, with pricing tied to user engagement, impressions, and attributable store visits. The platform used geofencing and location data to connect mobile ad views to in-store foot traffic, letting retailers measure the offline impact of their digital spend.

Pat Dermody left his position as CEO of Retale in 2019 after roughly six years leading the company. Guillaume Autier, an executive within the Bonial Group, assumed leadership as part of a broader consolidation of the parent company's North American and European operations.
