Krishna Gupta, the founder and managing partner, leads all investment decisions. Gupta started the firm while an MIT undergraduate and has built a team that includes engineering PhDs to evaluate technically complex deals. The firm operates as a small, centralized partnership.

Romulus sources deals almost entirely through deep relationships with university research labs, technology transfer offices, and on-campus entrepreneurial networks. Gupta and his team monitor patent filings, attend lab presentations, and track PhD candidates forming companies before they formally incorporate. This university-centric approach gives Romulus access to deals months before they reach broader venture marketplaces.

Romulus invests primarily at the seed stage and participates in follow-on rounds selectively. The firm reserves capital for its strongest-performing portfolio companies but does not pursue a pro-rata strategy across every investment. This capital-efficient approach aligns with its relatively small fund size.
