Salisbury School Endowment

The investment committee holds decision-making authority. Christopher Merrill — CEO and Chairman of Harrison Street, a $55 billion real assets manager — serves on the committee alongside Michael Dees, a managing partner at middle-market private equity firm Lindsay Goldberg. Jay Kemmerer, chairman of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, previously chaired the committee. The board of trustees, co-chaired by Campbell Langdon and David Leavy, retains ultimate fiduciary oversight.

The committee includes working principals from large alternative-asset managers rather than a generic consultant. Merrill and Dees vote directly on allocation decisions. This structure gives the endowment front-row access to institutional deal flow and manager assessment practices that a typical secondary-school pool would not command on its own, though it also ties sourcing edge to specific individuals.

TSSEF operates as a parallel philanthropic vehicle focused on fundraising for capital campaigns, including the 50th Anniversary Legacy campaign. Tom Johnson served as its inaugural president and former chair of the board of trustees. The endowment itself manages investable assets, while TSSEF raises current-use and campaign gifts — together they form the school's long-term financial architecture.

The endowment holds physical assets on the Salisbury campus, including core school ground and a dedicated solar field that likely generates operational savings. For larger-scale real assets, it likely relies on the institutional managers represented on its investment committee — Harrison Street on the real estate and infrastructure side, and Lindsay Goldberg for private equity — though direct co-investments alongside those firms have not been publicly confirmed.

The Russo '10 Endowment Fund is a named sub-pool within the broader endowment, established in honor of an alumnus. Restricted endowments of this kind typically target financial aid, faculty chairs, or specific programming, though the exact designation has not been disclosed publicly.
