SCVC benefits from privileged access to the Science Creates ecosystem, which includes over 75,000 square feet of specialized Deep Tech lab and office space in Bristol. Many portfolio companies originate from startups that first enter the ecosystem through its incubators or the UK-wide Engineering Biology Accelerator run in partnership with UKRI. This integrated model gives the investment team early visibility into technical founders and their progress before a formal fundraise.

Founder Harry Destecroix serves as Managing Partner and sets the fund's strategic direction. Day-to-day investment operations and deal execution are led by Cath Fletcher, Head of VC, who has a PhD in Supramolecular Chemistry and has built all key investment and portfolio management processes since SCVC's inception.

SCVC is a venture capital firm, not a family office. It is structured as a Limited Liability Partnership (Science Creates Ventures LLP) and manages external capital alongside investment from its founder. The firm is the dedicated VC arm of the broader Science Creates ecosystem, which also operates incubators, training programmes, and a STEM charity.

The firm focuses exclusively on pre-seed and seed-stage investments. This is patient capital designed for Deep Tech companies whose R&D cycles require longer runways before commercialization. SCVC supports startups at the point where scientific breakthroughs need first institutional capital to leave the lab.

SCVC invests in Deep Tech — innovations grounded in major scientific or engineering breakthroughs. Confirmed sector focuses include synthetic biology, advanced materials, medical devices, gene therapy, and climate tech. Its portfolio includes companies working on needle-free diagnostics, universal wound care, and isoform-specific antibodies, reflecting a concentration in health and sustainability applications.
