Frequently asked questions

How does smallcase source the model portfolios it offers?

smallcase does not create its own investment strategies. All smallcases are built and managed by SEBI-registered investment advisors, research analysts, and portfolio managers who publish their strategies on the platform. smallcase provides the technology infrastructure—order execution, rebalancing, and reporting—while the investment professionals retain responsibility for portfolio construction and performance.

Does smallcase hold client securities or cash directly?

No. smallcase does not hold client assets. Securities are held in the investor's existing demat account with their chosen broker. Mutual fund units are held directly with the asset management companies under the investor's PAN. smallcase operates as a technology intermediary that routes orders and provides a consolidation and analytics layer on top.

How does smallcase make money if it does not charge an AUM fee?

smallcase generates revenue through several channels: subscription fees charged by individual smallcase creators (which are shared with smallcase), transaction-based revenue-share arrangements with partner brokers, and premium platform features such as Wealth Office. The firm is not an investment advisor and does not earn advisory fees on assets under management.

Which Indian brokerages does smallcase integrate with?

smallcase integrates with a network of India's largest discount and full-service brokerages, including Zerodha—whose co-founder Nithin Kamath has publicly endorsed the platform—as well as Upstox, Angel One, HDFC Securities, and others. This multi-broker approach means investors can use smallcase without switching their existing brokerage relationship.

Is smallcase a regulated entity, and what is its registration status?

smallcase Technologies Private Limited is not itself registered with SEBI as an advisor, broker, or portfolio manager. It operates as an RBI-licensed fintech platform offering products and services from SEBI and RBI-regulated providers. All investment strategies on the platform are the responsibility of the SEBI-registered professionals who create them, and all order execution flows through regulated stockbrokers.
