DuPont completed its acquisition of Spectrum Plastics Group in 2023, folding the medical plastics manufacturer into its broader Healthcare Solutions unit. The business had operated independently since its founding in the 1960s, and now operates as DuPont™ Spectrum™. The July 2024 acquisition of Donatelle Plastics was also folded into Spectrum (per the firm, 2024). Spectrum produces extruded medical tubing, catheter technologies, medical balloons, injection-molded components, and flexible packaging films. It serves Class I through Class III medical device manufacturers across cardiovascular, neurovascular, orthopedics, and drug delivery applications. The company operates 20 manufacturing locations worldwide across 5 countries on 3 continents, with its headquarters in Alpharetta, Georgia. Spectrum reports over 2,900 employees and 18 facilities. The acquisition of Donatelle Plastics expanded its capabilities, particularly in catheter and balloon manufacturing. DuPont does not separately disclose Spectrum's revenue or operating margins as a standalone unit. Spectrum sits inside DuPont's Healthcare Solutions business rather than operating as a stand-alone family office or PE-backed platform. Its structural differentiator lies in being a materials-science giant's internal medical-component manufacturer — combining DuPont's polymer expertise, regulatory infrastructure, and customer relationships.
