The firm derives most of its pipeline from Stena AB's own operations — vendors, charterers, port operators, and technology partners experimenting within the group. It also accepts direct approaches and participates in industry-specific accelerators focused on maritime and offshore energy sectors.

Stena Ventures makes direct equity investments in early-stage companies. It does not publicly indicate commitments to external venture capital funds as a limited partner, operating instead as a proprietary balance-sheet investor for the Olsson family and Stena AB.

Stena Ventures is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Stena AB, the diversified industrial group founded by Sten A. Olsson in 1939 and chaired by his son, Dan Sten Olsson. The venture arm invests capital directly from the group's treasury, not from third-party limited partners.

The firm has not publicly disclosed a formal exclusion list, but its mandate is tightly scoped to sectors intersecting with Stena AB's business lines. Consumer internet, pure-play biotech, and enterprise SaaS with no industrial application would fall outside its strategic remit under normal conditions.

The firm targets startups in Scandinavia, the United Kingdom, and select US coastal markets. Its geographic focus follows Stena AB's shipping routes and real-estate holdings, which concentrate on Northern Europe and the US Eastern Seaboard.
