Suez was established in 2008 as a French utility focused on water optimization and waste services. Its corporate venture arm, Suez Ventures, channels investment activity for the parent. The group is owned by a consortium that includes Meridiam, Global Infrastructure Partners and Caisse des Dépôts Group. Suez Ventures targets early-stage and growth companies in water technology, cleantech and energy recovery. It has taken positions in Airex Energy, Subeca, Purple Alternative Surface, CarbonWorks, Prodeval (22 percent stake), HESUS, Inflowmatix, Cogebio, Intent Technologies and ETIA Group. Geographies include France, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States. Ticket sizes range from roughly $0.5 million to $1.6 million. The unit also maintains a foundation, Fondation SUEZ, established in 2011, that funds access-to-water projects globally. The firm reports no separate headcount for the venture unit. It participates in industry groups including Water Europe, Climate-KIC, EIT Raw Materials and AquaValley.
