Unovis Asset Management invests exclusively in companies that are transforming the global protein supply chain. The firm targets three core technology verticals: plant-based protein innovation, precision fermentation, and cultivated meat and seafood production. Its mandate excludes generalist climate-tech, food-delivery, and conventional agriculture plays.

Dan Altschuler, who founded the firm in 2016, serves as Managing Partner and runs investment decisions. Prior to launching Unovis, Altschuler built a track record as an early institutional backer of alternative-protein companies, which positioned him to anchor the firm's thesis as the space began attracting mainstream venture attention.

Unovis invests primarily through direct equity positions in operating companies, spanning seed through growth-stage rounds. Based on the firm's observable co-investment patterns, it does not operate a fund-of-funds program but will syndicate deals alongside other sector-specialist investors and occasionally alongside sovereign-backed capital.

The portfolio draws from innovation clusters in North America, Western Europe, and Israel — regions that have produced the majority of venture-scale alternative-protein startups. The firm has not disclosed dedicated emerging-market or Asia-Pacific allocations.

The Protein Directory is a public-benefit data platform tracking alternative-protein company formation, funding rounds, and technology milestones globally. Unovis launched and maintains the directory, which functions simultaneously as an industry public good and as a sourcing tool that reinforces the firm's access to early-stage deal flow across the sector.
