John Veson and Eva Douzinas co-founded Veson Nautical in 2004, acquiring Veson Inc., a business originally launched by Michael Veson in 1979 to create the first automated port-to-port distance tables. The firm is headquartered in Boston with additional offices in Athens, Dubai, Houston, London, Singapore, and Tokyo. Veson provides an integrated platform covering chartering, operations, finance, compliance, and analytics — all built for the maritime shipping industry. Its core product lines include the IMOS operating system and cloud-based IMOSLive, alongside data intelligence from acquisitions like VesselsValue (vessel valuations), Oceanbolt (bulk commodity data), and Q88 (information management). The platform handles over 195,000 commercial voyages annually and supports $2 trillion in commodities moved. Users include owner-operators, commodity traders, and materials producers across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas. The firm employs over 500 people across seven offices and has completed more than 1,000 implementations worldwide. In 2024, Veson opened a Dubai office to expand its Middle East presence (per the firm, 2024). The company also operates Veson University for client education and a partner network for integrations. No asset-management or family-office vehicles are publicly disclosed. Veson is structured as a product-led technology company, not an investment manager. Its revenue comes from software subscriptions and data services, and its mandate is to build the standard operating system for maritime commerce — analogous to an industry-specific ERP rather than a fund deploying capital into shipping assets.
