Assurant Growth Investing

The group deploys capital directly off Assurant's corporate balance sheet. No external fundraising vehicle, limited-partner base, or commingled fund structure has been publicly disclosed. This permanent-capital model means AGI does not operate under traditional venture fund constraints such as a ten-year fund life or mandatory distributions.

Both HYLA Mobile and iCracked were portfolio companies of AGI before Assurant acquired them outright. HYLA Mobile, a device-trade-in and recommerce platform, was acquired in January 2020 for approximately $670 million. iCracked, a device-repair logistics network, was acquired earlier. These acquisitions illustrate AGI's model of incubating strategic partnerships that can be folded into the parent company.

It is a captive corporate venture and growth equity group embedded inside Assurant, the publicly traded specialty insurer. It makes equity investments in companies adjacent to Assurant's core insurance and connected-device operations. The team does not operate as an independent firm with a separate brand, management company, or external investor base.

Sectors align tightly with Assurant's parent-company footprint: InsurTech, connected-device services, mobility protection, and residential risk solutions. Geography skews heavily toward North America, with secondary exposure to the UK and Europe through Assurant's established London insurance operations. Investments outside these verticals or regions are not publicly documented.

Where many corporate VC arms operate as financially motivated fund-of-funds or minority investors, AGI's model includes a demonstrated path to full acquisition. HYLA Mobile and iCracked both moved from portfolio positions to wholly owned subsidiaries. The group invests permanent capital rather than committed fund pools, removing exit-timing pressure and making it structurally closer to a long-duration holding company than a traditional CVC.
