Cultivar Capital invests primarily at the early stage, from seed through Series A, with occasional participation in later rounds for existing portfolio companies. The firm prefers to engage when technology risk is partially retired but commercial scale remains ahead. Follow-on reserves are structured to support companies through growth milestones.

Cultivar does not invest in sectors outside the agrifood technology thesis. Pure-play software companies without an agricultural or food-chain application fall outside the mandate, as do therapeutics, consumer packaged goods without a technology core, and traditional farmland acquisition plays.

The firm accesses pipeline through research university agricultural extension networks, specialty crop grower associations, and corporate agribusiness innovation programs. Its reputation within the agtech ecosystem generates inbound founder referrals from prior portfolio CEOs and co-investing venture partners.

Cultivar evaluates both lead and participation roles, depending on the stage and syndicate composition. For seed-stage investments where its agricultural domain expertise is highest, the firm is more likely to structure and price the round. At Series A and beyond, it frequently co-invests alongside larger generalist funds.

Cultivar Capital concentrates its investments in North America, with active engagement across the United States and Canada. The firm selectively evaluates opportunities in Latin America where agrifood supply chains connect to North American distribution, though its portfolio remains predominantly US-based.
