Highview Capital was established in 2016 by Dr. Gary Michelson to manage proceeds from spinal-surgery patents and the Medtronic settlement. Michelson, an orthopedic surgeon and inductee in the National Inventors Hall of Fame, structured the office around a single source of permanent capital. Alya Michelson serves as co-chair of Michelson Philanthropies alongside the investment activities. The firm pursues buyouts, growth equity, and turnaround situations in middle-market companies. It deploys across industrial, consumer, and service sectors with a focus on operational improvement and add-on acquisitions. Confirmed transactions include the 2025 acquisitions by portfolio companies Safety Marking of Straight Line Industries and GS Foods Group of The Danielsen Company. B&R Auto completed a further add-on in the same period. All activity remains concentrated in North America, primarily the United States. Highview maintains no disclosed AUM figure and operates with a compact team led by Managing Directors Steve Russell and P.J. Gilbert. The office holds real-asset positions including mixed-use and commercial properties in Austin, Sacramento, Raleigh, and Los Angeles. In May 2025 Safety Marking completed its Northeastern expansion through the Straight Line acquisition. Michelson Philanthropies and the Michelson 20MM, Found Animals, and Medical Research Foundations sit adjacent to the investment vehicle. Highview's structure rests on a single permanent capital source that eliminates LP reporting cycles and enables direct participation in complex carveouts and recapitalizations. This architecture supports longer holding periods than typical private-equity funds and allows the firm to retain operational control or structured minority stakes without syndication requirements.
