Marin Investments was founded in 1952 by W. Maurice Young. The firm originated as the holding vehicle for the Young family's controlling interest in Finning Tractor & Equipment, then the largest Caterpillar distributor worldwide. Charles Young, son of the founder, has served as President and CEO; Lisa Young serves as Chief Financial Officer. The firm allocates across private equity, real estate and public equities. It targets equity checks of $2 million to $10 million in established operating companies headquartered in North America and prefers minority stakes that preserve management incentives. Confirmed positions include historical ownership of Whistler Mountain Ski Corporation from 1988 to 1997 and ongoing real-estate partnerships such as Marine Gateway in Vancouver and the Yukon mixed-use project. Geographic reach centers on Western Canada and the Western United States. Marin co-invests with partners including Kingswood Capital and PCI Developments. No public AUM figure exists. The firm keeps a small Vancouver headquarters team and outsources operating talent to portfolio companies. Christopher Young serves as a principal. Liam Young, former Chief Investment Officer, died in 2024. Adjacent vehicles include the W. Maurice Young Foundation and family membership in the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club and YPO. Marin remains fully owned and controlled by the Young family after multiple generational transfers.
