Dirk Ströer, as Managing Shareholder, sets the strategic direction and likely retains final approval on investment decisions. Stefan Petter, appointed Managing Director in 2018, oversees transaction business and investee controlling. The firm’s website describes a collaborative approach where the team “would be happy to work with you,” but ultimate authority rests with Ströer given the permanent-capital structure.

Media Ventures does not market itself as a fund manager and shows no evidence of raising third-party LP capital. The firm describes itself as a private venture capital company whose capital originates from Dirk Ströer’s earlier exits and his family’s advertising business. This makes it a proprietary-capital vehicle, not a traditional venture fund.

The firm provides an in-house shared-services platform covering accounting, controlling, IT, legal, and personnel — a structure its website calls “unique.” Founders are promised relief from administrative burdens so they can focus on product and growth. This operator-heavy model is core to the firm’s pitch, particularly for early-stage companies without their own back-office infrastructure.

Dirk Ströer sits on the Supervisory Board of Ströer Media AG and his family controls the publicly listed out-of-home advertising company. Media Ventures GmbH is a legally separate entity, but the wealth that capitalizes it originated from Ströer’s early career building digital and outdoor advertising businesses within his father’s group. The two entities operate independently in their day-to-day activities.

The firm concentrates on German-speaking Europe, with the portfolio dominated by German-headquartered companies. Some holdings, such as the dating platform c-date with 40 million users globally, have international customer bases. The real estate arm, Property Ventures, explicitly focuses on projects throughout Germany.

Media Ventures states its focus is “not industry-dependent,” but the portfolio reveals no exposure to deep tech, hardware, biotech, or energy. The firm gravitates toward businesses where its in-house digital marketing, legal, and controlling services add immediate value — which in practice means internet platforms, adtech, consumer apps, and media.

Because the firm does not manage a fund with a fixed life, it faces no structural deadline to exit positions. Portfolio companies like dimensional (held since 2012) and Global Group (held since 2011) demonstrate multi-year holding periods. The firm does not discuss exit strategy publicly, a posture consistent with indefinite-hold permanent capital.
