The Players Impact Ventures

Tracy Deforge, who also founded the broader Players Impact networking group for athletes, launched the ventures arm in 2017. The Players Impact serves as a career-transition and business-education platform for professional athletes; the ventures entity is its dedicated investment vehicle, pooling deal flow and capital from that membership base.

Deal flow originates primarily from within its athlete membership network, where players bring opportunities from personal relationships, agents, and other venture networks. The central office in Chicago screens and structures these opportunities, presenting select deals back to athlete members who opt in on a deal-by-deal basis.

The firm operates on a deal-by-deal syndicate model rather than a blind-pool fund. Athlete members evaluate each investment individually and commit capital at their discretion. This structure gives members flexibility and aligns investment decisions with their personal brand interests.

The firm targets early-stage and growth companies in sports technology, consumer wellness, digital health, and media. Its thesis relies on the ability of athlete-investors to provide distribution, brand credibility, and operational insights that accelerate a startup's path to market.

The firm has not published a complete roster of athlete investors, though its membership base draws from active and former players across the NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS. Individual athlete participation is typically disclosed alongside specific portfolio company announcements.
