Wellington College was founded in 1853 by Queen Victoria as a national monument to the 1st Duke of Wellington. The current Duke of Wellington serves as ex officio Chairman, while James Dahl acts as Master and Trustee of the Old Wellingtonian Charitable Trust. Stephen Crouch is Chief Operating Officer and Bursar, responsible for financial and operational management. The institution educates more than 1,100 boarding and day pupils, and its physical endowment includes the main 400-acre Crowthorne campus, the Eagle House School campus in Sandhurst, and the 99 Rhode Island Street property in San Francisco—former Airbnb offices now housing Hiba Academy Bay Area.
