Kapil Wadhawan, as Chairman and Managing Director, exercised full investment discretion over WGC and its underlying entities. His brother Dheeraj Wadhawan served as a promoter and co-signatory on major asset decisions. The firm had no external investment committee or independent fiduciary oversight before the DHFL crisis, per court filings reviewed by the CBI.

Wadhawan Global Capital and DHFL were controlled by the same promoter family under Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan. The family office held stakes in non-lending businesses while DHFL operated as a deposit-taking housing finance company. Investigators have alleged that funds were routed from DHFL to WGC-linked entities through layered transactions involving shell companies.

The two primary portfolio companies, Aadhar Housing Finance and Avanse Financial Services, were sold through insolvency proceedings. Blackstone Group acquired Aadhar Housing Finance, and Warburg Pincus purchased Avanse Financial Services. The proceeds were directed to DHFL creditors, not the promoter family, as part of India's Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code resolution.

The Wadhawan family's wealth originated from DHFL, founded by Rajesh Wadhawan as one of India's pioneering private housing finance companies. Before its collapse, DHFL became India's second-largest HFC by assets. The family's wealth was heavily concentrated in DHFL equity, which was rendered worthless after the 2019 default, leading to the erosion of promoter net worth.

There is no evidence of active investment operations at WGC. Kapil Wadhawan remains in judicial custody with periodic bail applications, and the Enforcement Directorate has attached personal assets including the London properties and the Bombardier jet. No new entity filings or website have surfaced indicating resumed activity.

The Wadhawan Foundation and DHFL Changing Lives previously funded education and rural development initiatives across Maharashtra. Both entities have been inactive since 2019, with no public disclosures, grantmaking records, or board activity reported since the DHFL crisis began.

WGC focused on financial services adjacent businesses — housing finance, education lending, and commercial real estate — all sectors where DHFL's distribution network could provide origination advantages. The firm explicitly avoided technology, healthcare, and manufacturing sectors entirely.
